Approximately
450,000 Marines served in Viet Nam between 1965 and 1973. During a conversation
I was having it was thought to be interesting to know how many Marines
received Valor only Medals. Actually I was not terribly surprised by the
findings and believe they make perfect sense. |

We acknowledge that many Bronze Stars, Navy Commendations
and several other medals were given with Combat V. Without overly extensive
research it seems difficult at best to determine how many of these dual
medals were given for Valor or non-Valor so the decision was made to not
include them in the stats. |
